"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."
--Thomas Jefferson
-------------------------
"Of all the contrivances for cheating the laboring classes of mankind, none has been more effectual than that which deludes them with paper money."
"We are in danger of being overwhelmed with irredeemable paper, mere paper, representing not gold nor silver; no, Sir, representing nothing but broken promises, bad faith, bankrupt corporations, cheated creditors, and a ruined people."
--Daniel Webster
-------------------------
"Paper money has had the effect in your State [Rhode Island] that it ever will have, to ruin commerce--oppress the honest, and open the door to every species of fraud and injustice."
--George Washington
-------------------------
"Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time, and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter, I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out."
--Andrew Jackson (discussing the Bank Renewal bill with a delegation of bankers in 1832)

empty pockets
Last night, Nathan & I went out for the evening, and as we drove down Laurens Road, he commented that on our way home, we should stop at Murphy's to fill up since I was down to about 1/4 of a tank, & they always seem to have the lowest prices. Several hours later, as we headed back that direction, I reminded him that he wanted to stop. He didn't want to since it was late, 10:45 or so, & I teased him that he would be mad at himself tomorrow (today) if the gas prices shot up because of the hurricane.
We got home about 10 minutes later & he turned on the tv to get things ready for us to watch what we had recorded while gone (who wants to miss even reruns of The Office?!), & as I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom, he came to tell me that we should have stopped for gas after all...he was watching the 11:00 news & they were saying by this morning, gas would be above $4......it was $3.49 at Murphy's.
I tried to stop myself...but I just couldn't...
"What'd I tell you?!" :)
Needless to say, I'm going to be seeing just exactly how far 1/4 of a tank will get me!

favorite verses
just wanted to share a few of them...
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
--Matthew 5:14-16
As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children's children.
--Psalm 103:15-17
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
--Revelation 21:4
The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.
--Psalm 145: 8-9
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
--I Corinthians 13:13

i remember
today is the day we stop & remember. we remember the horrific events of this day in 2001. we remember the lost lives & the heartbroken families; the bravery of the firefighters & the rescue workers; the civilians - the strangers - helping one another through it all. it's a hard day to remember...sometimes it seems as though it would be easier to forget. but i think it's good to remember.
to remember all that we have to be thankful for.
to remember all that we have to be thankful for.

out of the depths
Out of the depths, O Lord, I cry to You
When I am tempted to despair
Though I might fail to trust Your promises
You never fail to hear my prayer
And if You judged my sin
I’d never stand again
But I see mercy in Your hands
So more than watchmen for the morning
I will wait for You, my God
When my fears come with no warning
In Your Word I’ll put my trust
When the harvest time is over and I still see no fruit
I will wait, I will wait for You
The secret mysteries belong to You
We only know what You reveal
And all my questions that are unresolved
Don’t change the wisdom of Your will
In every trial and loss
My hope is in the cross
Where Your compassions never fail
So more than watchmen for the morning
I will wait for You, my God
When my fears come with no warning
In Your Word I’ll put my trust
When the harvest time is over and I still see no fruit
I will wait, I will wait for You

the title...is not what i wanted it to be, so it may change once i come up with something clever...or, IF i come up with something clever. yeah, that's more like it. IF. i seem to be having a complete brain freeze these days when it comes to witty responses, or...blog titles, apparently. sigh...hopefully after this extremely busy week is over, i'll get some much-needed sleep & relaxation (doubtful!) & the wit & sarcasm will come racing back. :)
